Stafford Police Chief retires, amid standoff over township layoffs
Stafford Township officials say Police Chief Thomas Conroy abruptly submitted his retirement paperwork over the weekend. The move comes in the midst of a battle between the Police Department and local officials, over plans to lay off five officers at month’s end. Conroy, a 27-year veteran of the police force, reportedly will leave on paid administrative leave, effective Wednesday. His official retirement date is June 30.
